Meet Tyler
Tyler Axelson, DPT is a physical therapist, personal trainer, and educator dedicated to helping people move better and live stronger. His passion for movement began in high school coaching youth sports and has shaped a career rooted in performance, education, and individualized care.
Tyler earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Psychology from Robert Morris University before completing his Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Northeastern University. He has treated orthopedic and sports-related injuries across the lifespan, with a particular focus on youth and adolescent athletes, runners, and active adults looking to return to—or exceed—their prior level of function. He is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and has worked as a personal trainer for several years bringing a blend of strength training and fitness to his physical therapy practice.
In addition to clinical practice, Tyler has served as an adjunct faculty member in Northeastern University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program, teaching cadaver and functional anatomy labs. He also brings unique insight from his experience as a robotic clinical specialist, having observed more than 500 total and partial joint replacement procedures, allowing him to confidently guide both pre- and post-operative patients.
Outside the clinic, Tyler is a runner and CrossFit athlete who understands the demands of training, recovery, and long-term performance. As someone living with Type 1 diabetes, he brings a deeply personal appreciation for resilience, consistency, and individualized care.
These experiences led Tyler to create AXL Performance & Recovery, a cash-based practice built around personalized treatment, education, and long-term results—where patients, not paperwork, are always the priority.

“The season favors the prepared”
Youth sport participation has increased significantly over the past few decades, with over 65% of children participating in multiple sports. In addition, many young athletes now compete on multiple teams within the same sport year-round. As training volume and competition demands increase, athletes often develop nagging aches, overuse symptoms, and movement limitations during the season.
To address this, AXL offers structured maintenance programs designed to support athletes throughout the year—helping them recover, move well, and reduce injury risk while continuing to train and compete.
Services include:
45-minute one-on-one sessions focused on recovery, mobility, and strength, tailored to the athlete’s current needs
Structured home programs to support performance, manage training load, and reduce injury risk
Ongoing guidance to address minor issues before they become more significant injuries
Ideal for:
Athletes competing in-season
Athletes preparing for upcoming races, tournaments, or events
Packages include:
Maintenance sessions 1–4 times per month, depending on training demands and individual needs
